Polymer Mortars - Ready to Use
Polymer mortars are far superior in performance
to conventional materials of their kind, featuring
good adhesion, waterproofing, resilience, durabil-
ity and mechanical strength properties, while being
easy to apply directly to concrete for laying bricks
and blocks in masonry construction applications.
One of the most important characteristics of
polymer mortars is the fact that they are consid-
ered environmentally friendly, as they involve
much less CO
2
emissions than conventional mor-
tars. In addition, there are countless advantages to
using them, such lower bricklaying, construction
and wall facing costs, faster handling and applica-
Editorial - Looking for New Horizons
A pioneering spirit has always been one of Agnelo Editora’s primary traits. Since its foundation in 1996, the
publishing company has followed a path of innovation and, back then, it surprised the industry by putting out
on the market publications in Portuguese, English and Spanish, an initiative that has not only been praised by
our readers, but also embraced by some of our competitors.
Likewise, we have ventured into various market segments and launched several magazines for industries
like paints and coatings, retail, printing, adhesives, sealants, chemicals at large and construction chemicals
(ConstruChemical). The spirit of enterprise has always come first at the company, which currently publishes
five magazines: Paint & Pintura, Lojas Tintas, Lojas Papelarias and GraphPrint, as well as ConstruChemical.
One other distinguishing feature of Agnelo Editora is that it has always set up the Brazilian flag at major
events held in the United States and South America. Aiming higher, we are now extending our roots to the
European continent, where we will put up the Brazilian flag at the European Coatings Show—one of the most
important construction chemicals, paint and coatings trade shows—, where around 20,000 decision-makers
and experts from a hundred countries will have access to the industry’s most significant developments, in-
cluding raw materials, services and equipment.
The European Coatings Show will take place in March, in Nuremberg, Germany. The congress will be held
on March 18 and 19, and the exhibition from March 19 to 21. And this year Agnelo Editora, with its maga-
zines Paint & Pintura and ConstruChemical, will be participating in the show for the first time ever, taking
the opportunity to bring back firsthand to the Brazilian market the most relevant information on chemicals,
paints and coatings for the building and construction industry.
The latest developments in the production of performance coatings, paints, sealants, construction chemi-
cals and adhesives will be on display at the trade show, spread over seven malls.
After the previous edition, which took place in 2011 with over 25,000 visitors and 887 exhibitors, the or-
ganizers have expanded the exhibit space for this year. During the two-day congress, 24 high-end lectures
will be provided on the latest developments in science and industrial processes. Topics include architectural,
wood, protective and automotive coatings, epoxy coatings, water-based radiation curing and titanium diox-
ide applications, functional coatings and materials, polyurethanes, nano-technology for sealants and adhe-
sives, and construction chemicals, among others. There will be new approaches to sustainability in the paint
industry also.
Through this initiative, we are hoping to be side by side with global corporations, some of which already
are in the Brazilian market, and some are planning to break into it, and thus show a little more of our market
to the European continent and bring back innovations to our country, which is on the list of emerging econo-
mies and has been displaying so much strength in the building and construction industry, with strong growth
prospects for the next few years.

Use in Brazil
The use of polymer mortars has been increasing more
and more in Brazil. “In fact, their use is already widespread
in ceramic coating applications and also as waterproofing
and repairing materials. In brick and block laying appli-
cations, on the other hand, their presence is still relatively
small, but they show great potential for growth,” says Paulo
Grimaldi, marketing manager at Wacker’s Construction
Polymers South America business.
Eliene Ventura, technical manager at Vedacit/Otto
Baumgart, also says that polymer mortars are among the
